This tall jar is thrown on the wheel, dipped in many layers of black slip, and glazed with a clear glaze to highlight the contrast of the carved white line.
The benificent face in the moon held in exchange by two hands is carved after a detail from the Musaeum Hermeticum Reformatum et Amplificatum, first published in Germany in the fifteenth century.
This jar exhibits crazing in the glaze, as pictured. The jar stands at 7.5” tall, measures about 4” wide and 3.5” at the opening.
