Swan and Lotus II
Swans epitomize grace and beauty, yet are highly territorial, bonded deeply to their families and partners. I see the swan as a symbol of balance and spiritual realization, and so have paired this creature with a lotus emerging from a golden lake.
Swan is thrown on the wheel from white stoneware, then dipped in black slip which gives a layered, atmospheric quality to its color. I carve the image by hand and adorn this unique composition with luster components.
The slip on this piece is very subtly variegated and the glaze has crazed, providing exquisite texture. You can see the tiny cracks as pictured. I consider these markings and imperfections as in accordance with the design and visual harmony of the piece.
This mug holds 12 fl ounces.
Please note, luster is not microwave safe, it is gold, and therefore metal. Be safe when using your pieces. Hand wash or wash occasionally in the top rack of the dishwasher to preserve the luster finish.
