Gilded Black Bear Cub I
Black bears are mischievous, playful, strong and intelligent - but they’re also lethal predators. They roam all over the forests in Western Massachusetts, often crossing the boundaries between human settlements and forest, looking for the easiest meal (which is often in the trash or compost.) Mother bears are fiercely protective of their cubs, who are still vulnerable and learning how to live in the wild.
The slip on this piece is very subtly variegated and the glaze has crazed, providing exquisite texture. You can see the tiny cracks as pictured. I consider these markings and imperfections as in accordance with the design and visual harmony of the piece.
This one of a kind piece is thrown on the wheel from white stoneware, then dipped in black slip and hand carved into. I distress the slip, let it run, and embrace the individuality of each piece. Painted gold luster adorns the piece, highlighting the details of the image and the irregularities of the slip.
This mug holds 12 fl ounces comfortably.
Please note, luster is not microwave safe, it is gold, and therefore metal. Be safe when using your pieces. Hand wash or wash occasionally in the top rack of the dishwasher to preserve the luster.
