The Woodpecker is thrown on the wheel with white stoneware, then dipped in slip and hand carved. I added blue markings in slip, and finally added details of silver luster.
The slip on this piece is very subtly variegated, providing exquisite texture. I consider these markings and imperfections as in accordance with the design and visual harmony of the piece.
I distress the slip, let it run, and embrace the individuality of each mug. This mug holds 6-8 fl ounces.
